A 43-year-old Nicosia man appeared before the Limassol District Court over gunshots fired at a contractor’s offices on October 7, 2025. Police say the incident is connected to a July 3 bombing at the same premises.

Investigators sought an eight-day detention. Defense lawyers Viktoras Akamas and Grigoriou Orthodoksia objected, arguing there’s no concrete evidence beyond the complainant’s claims and criticizing investigative gaps during a detailed cross-examination.

Suspect’s account & initial checks

The suspect denies involvement, stating he remained at home that night. He consented to police reviewing his residence CCTV (already inspected by Limassol CID) and urged statements from cohabiting family members.

In court, the complainant claimed prior conflicts: a €400,000 “loan” in 2021-2022 allegedly due by 31/12/2023 with an extra €1 million in interest. He says he repaid €400,000 plus €200,000, sought more time in April 2024, and rejected new interest on a purported €800,000 balance.

A related case over an alleged 29/12/2023 assault is pending at Nicosia District Court, with charges including threat, theft, extortion, and usury; first hearing is set for October 2025.

New claims of threats and boasting

The complainant says a contact warned him on 22/09/2025 that the suspect feared retaliation, and that on 07/10, the day of the shooting, the suspect allegedly bragged about commissioning the attack. He also cites periodic warnings that associates were being threatened.

Charges under investigation

  • Conspiracy to commit a felony

  • Unlawful possession and transport of explosives

  • Unlawful possession and transport of a firearm

  • Attempted destruction of property with explosives

  • Interference with judicial proceedings

The court has reserved its decision on the police remand request and is expected to announce it later today.
