Authorities are now investigating premeditated murder following the death of a 31 year old man who fell two floors down from his apartment balcony in Limassol last Sunday. His death was first reported as a tragic accident.

Police were pointed to this new lead in the case by coroners Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou who performed an autopsy on the body and discovered penetrating stab wounds in the stomach area, not consistent with the fall of Gerome Zarate De Castro, a Philippino national.

In light of the development turning the case into a criminal investigation, the Limassol CID subsequently arrested the victim's 26 year old wife, who was remanded in custody this morning by the city's district court, in connection with the case.

De Castro was discovered critically wounded around 1pm on Sunday September 28th outside his apartment building in Limassol. He was rushed to the Limassol General where he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.

It was initially reported that he had attempted to enter his wife's bedroom through the balcony as she had locked herself in, but slipped and fell.

Preliminary evidence indicate that the 31 year old did land on the cement parking area, six metres down, but his stomach injuries, which according to both coroners were caused by a blunt instrument, now provide a very different direction.

It is expected that the wife's testimony will shed more light on the incident.
