A key development has emerged in the case concerning the alleged usurpation of Greek-Cypriot properties, with Turkish-Jewish defendant Simon Mistriel Aykut indicating plans to admit to part of the charges against him.

During today’s session, Aykut’s lawyer informed the court of the intention to proceed with a partial plea deal, acknowledging certain charges while the remaining ones are expected to be withdrawn. The Nicosia Assize Court adjourned the hearing for about 30 minutes to allow the prosecution and defence to prepare a revised statement of facts.

242 total charges

Aykut faces 242 charges in total:

  • 60 counts of fraudulent transactions in immovable property,

  • 60 counts of illegal possession, control and use of land,

  • 62 counts of money laundering from illicit activities, and

  • 60 counts of conspiracy to commit a felony.

All real estate linked to the alleged offences is located in occupied villages within the Famagusta and Kyrenia districts, according to the case file.
