Defence industry cooperation was at the centre of a phone call between the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Turkish presidency’s Directorate of Communications, the two leaders discussed Turkey–UK bilateral relations, developments in the Middle East, as well as regional and international issues.

Erdoğan said there is strong political will to further develop cooperation between the two countries in all fields, with particular emphasis on the defence industry, noting that steps to strengthen relations will continue.

He also said Ankara is closely monitoring developments following the attacks on Iran and warned that a prolongation of the interventions could cause serious damage to regional and global stability.

He added that there is still room to build dialogue, saying Turkey will continue its efforts aimed at achieving peace.
