An EU source has confirmed to the Cyprus News Agency that the European Commission has rejected all Nicosia appeals on the refund demand for the Vasiliko LNG Terminal project and the country will have to return €67,191,391.67 to Brussels - a tranch of the money it had received as co-financing out of a total cost of 101 million.

The EU source noted that the payment deadline is November 6, 2025, and if the amount is not paid by then, interest charges will begin to accrue.

According to earlier reports, the decision comes after CINEA (European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency) definitively rejected Cyprus's positions on the issue in a recent ruling.

The same source declined to comment further on the reasoning behind CINEA's rejection of the Cypriot appeals.
