A 39-year-old driver was arrested after crashing into a parked vehicle in Limassol and recording an alcohol level more than six times the legal limit, police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred at around 4pm on Okeanidon Street on Saturday, where the driver lost control of his vehicle and collided with a parked car, inside which was a 47-year-old individual. A 50-year-old passenger was travelling in the vehicle at the time.

As a result of the impact, the driver’s vehicle overturned. The passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Limassol General Hospital, where he received first aid and was later discharged.

A preliminary breathalyser test showed the driver had an alcohol level of 142μg%, well above the legal limit of 22μg%. A subsequent final test recorded a reading of 127μg%.

The driver was arrested and taken into custody. He is expected to be charged in writing and released, to be summoned before a court at a later date.

Limassol traffic police continue their investigations.
