Authorities have warned that flying kites and drones near Cyprus airports on Clean Monday could endanger aircraft and disrupt operations.

In a statement, the Department of Civil Aviation said the custom of flying kites or unmanned aerial vehicles in the approach paths to the runways at Larnaca and Paphos airports may pose a risk to flight safety and cause concern to flight crews. The department called on the public to avoid flying kites and drones in areas close to the airports.

The Municipality of Larnaca issued a similar announcement. It said that flying kites and operating drones in aircraft approach zones, including Alyki-Tekke, Akti Makenzi, Kiti and Perivolia, may create a serious safety hazard.

The municipality appealed for public understanding and cooperation to prevent any unwanted incidents during the Clean Monday holiday.
